One of the things I appreciate most about writing is hearing from readers about the topics they'd like me to explore. Today's post was inspired by one of those requests, and I enjoyed writing this.
Revisiting Connections is something many of us have experienced, whether it's an old friendship, a relationship, or someone who unexpectedly reappears in our lives, the decision to revisit those connections is where we should consider.
Before we begin talking about this topic:
First, who pops into your head when you think of revisiting a connection?
Second, you may want to ask yourself one of these questions:
Who do I no longer speak to?
Why did we stop communicating?
Many of us have and will form connections in our lives, some that will last and some that will fade.
When we began new connections we don’t always know where they will go, where they will lead us nor do we know how they will end.
The connections that last are probably the ones who show up authentically themselves, that were genuine on both ends. The ones that fade… Well those are probably the ones that had a few bumps in the road.
Real connections are built on genuine vibes, truth, vulnerability, and understanding. Those are the connections that tend to last, and that tend to grow.
Connections that slowly fade and are permanently lost usually occur for many reasons, some being:
A lack of authencity, a lack of truth, a lack of understanding, a lack of communication, a lack of consideration, and a lack of growth. Those are just a few examples, however just one of those examples are significant to losing a connection as those are key factors into building and keeping a genuine connection.
Revisiting something lost or something that has faded away doesn’t seem wise when you look at the entirety of the connection and examine it from beginning to end.
If the connection faded or the connection was lost then it was probably was never good to begin with. There’s clearly a reason it was on the verge of ending or it ended. Let it.
Everyone has their own thoughts on reconnecting with people from their past or trying to repair an old friendship or relationship. As I gotten older, I realize I have no desire to revisit friendships or relationships that belong in my past. If it ended, it was a hundred percent for a reason.
I've tried repairing broken friendships and giving old relationships another chance, only to be quickly reminded why the friendship ended or why I walked away from the relationship in the first place.
Some chapters are meant to stay closed, and there's peace in leaving the past where it belongs.
There's something revealing about walking away from people and situations that aren't aligned with you. If that connection was meant to stay and be apart of your life, then that connection would still be here but sometimes certain connections are just suppose to be apart of a chapter but not the ending of our book.
Sometimes, certain connections are meant to teach us what to walk away from, what no longer deserves our time, energy, or presence.
Think back to the questions you reflected on at the beginning of this reading. Would you go back and revisit them now? Or has your connection to them changed?
